Franz

Franz began his life in Vienna as an XL men’s button-down shirt crafted by Eterna, one of Europe’s oldest shirtmakers. Made from crisp cotton in a classic red-and-white stripe, the original shirt was sourced in Europe and carefully taken apart stitch by stitch in New York. Through the Shkirt practice of complete deconstruction and reconstruction, Franz has been reconfigured by hand into a fluid, softly structured skirt with an effortless drape and understated elegance.

Franz features an adjustable waistband, a single side pocket, and is finished with French seams. Rather than cutting new pieces, the shirt’s original pattern components were preserved and rearranged, allowing the existing fabric, stripes, and proportions to dictate the final form. The result is a skirt that honors its past while taking on an entirely new identity.

Franz is made to fit you. The skirt can hug waists from approximately 20" to 35" and may feature four to eight buttons along the waistband, added during the tailoring process to allow for flexible, incremental adjustment and a precise fit. Share your measurements below, and Franz will be individually tailored to your body. Each Shkirt is a one-of-a-kind piece, made by hand in our New York atelier with a focus on fit, finish, and longevity.

Franz prefers a warm or cold wash with similar colors and a gentle hang dry.

Franz comes with Lifetime Care. We offer complimentary repairs for craftsmanship-related issues and invite clients to return their skirts or Shkirts for repair, alteration, or responsible recycling as part of our zero-waste commitment. Clients are responsible for shipping costs.
